Hello and welcome to my first blog post. My name is Meddeline Muzah and I am the Facility Nurse Manager at Alexander House Rest home. As some of you may already know, I have been Manager at Alexander house for a year and a couple of months now and it has been an amazing journey so far.

As part of my journey as a manager at Alexander I am so excited to share with you more of what my blog has to offer. I want to start by telling you why this blog has been created and what you will be seeing more of in my future posts.

Why start this blog?

I have been nursing for about 23 years now and have worked across different health set ups ranging from 3rd world hospital set ups, 1st world acute hospital set ups , disability sector, community sector and now aged care . The one thing that stood out for me as I worked in all these sectors is that I came across the elderly many times. This raised my interest in looking after the elderly and ensuring that they get the best possible care. Just an extract from the United Nations below

“The UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) seeks to reduce health inequities and improve the lives of older people, their families and communities through collective action in four areas: changing how we think, feel and act towards age and ageism; developing communities in ways that foster the abilities of older people; delivering person-centered integrated care and primary health services responsive to older people; and providing older people who need it with access to quality long-term care.”

What you will be seeing more of in my posts

I have decided that in this blog I will center more on ageing,  care and services available  for our lovely senior citizens and how Alexander House is playing its part. The quality of life that our elderly people get when they move into care is just as important , it has to be a continuation of a journey started from home.

Can your elderly parents or whanau live a better life in residential care? Let’s talk about this and a lot more in my next blogs.
